About
The Film
Director John W. Yost (EVERY GOOD THING to RUST) offers an intimate portrait of a normal, middle-class American family - his own. Blurring the lines of fiction and biography, Yost places himself as the main character in a story that veers away from his own timeline in its questioning of "what if...?"
Starring Yost's own family members as themselves, and introducting Ethan Weiss and Emily Norton as John and his wife, Raeanne, The Brave and the Kind is as much a meditation on the discovery of self as it is an ode to family, with all of its charms and flaws.
The Production
Production recently wrapped in upstate New York, where filmming took place in and around Averill Park, Troy, Saratoga Springs, Cape Vincent and Glens Falls. The rest of the summer will include a 2-week soundtrack recording session in Rochester featuring musicians Peter Klinkon and Rob Drury, who produced the original score for RUST. Behind the Scenes videos and an online Production Diary offer intimate insight into the production from actor and brother Neil Yost.
IndiePix Studios
Believing that the internet is the last truly free forum for independent film, Yost has partnered with IndiePix Films, an online distribution agency, to bring The Brave and the Kind to the big screen. Based in New York City, IndiePix boasts the largest online library of independent film and continues to find audiences for new, undiscovered filmmakers. With the production of The Brave and the Kind and subsequent launch of IndiePix Studios, they continue to chart the course for innovative, independent film distribution.
Jason Tyrell of IndiePix first discovered EVERY GOOD THING to RUST in late 2007, and soon after met with Yost and planted the idea of a funded second feature. Tyrell is producing the film, has played a key role in the scriptwriting process, and will continue to see the film through marketing and distribution.
